Almost Aviation
Великобритания
Добавлен 1 янв 2007
This started out as mostly flight simulation and DIY cockpit construction. In the real world I have a PPL and 99 hours in my logbook. Most of this was on Cessna 150/152 and 172s, and mostly between 1993 and 1996.
My early simulation videos feature Microsoft FSX. In the earlier live videos I am often using a TrackIR head tracker and running across three screens (3840 x 1024 or 4066 x 1024). Since summer 2017 I started running three 32" TVs, although that got a bit complicated when I started using View Groups in P3Dv4. There are a few X-Plane 11 videos too.
Since August 2020 I have started experimenting with Microsoft Flight Simulator (a.k.a. MSFS 2020), so a few videos feature that sim. Time will tell where that will end up.
Specs:
2009 to August 2012: Core2 Duo E8600-based PC, overclocked to 4GHz.
August 2012 to May 2017: Core i5-2550K @ 4.6GHz, 8Gb 1600MHz DDR3 RAM, Palit GTX670.
Current: Core i7 7700K @4.0-4.5GHz (stock), 32Gb DDR4 RAM, nvidia GTX1070. Windows 7 Pro/64.

A little taste of the mini mini Moog! Delay and reverb added on the iPad. Arp and expression controlled over CV from the KeyStep Pro. The scope is showing audio output and the aftertouch CV, which is controlling the filter cutoff. This is a simple two-oscillator patch using the LFO as a sub-bass. Bleeping FX and wind noise are MAVIS too, but over-dubbed.

Brilliant, very skillful.
Whats next? 😀
Great to see you back again, I've still got the original panel you sold and followed your books. Look forward to seeing your videos with the cessna.
Thanks. To be honest, I haven't done much of anything with MSFS since then. (But look out for a couple of Twin Otter throwback videos soon...)
Hi ! Lovely music. Any "flight simulator" content on the horizon? I used to really look forward to your contributions.
Hmmm, not really. I do still have 2020 installed, and I might try 2024 when it arrives. If only there were something like FS Recorder I might go back to making some of my old style videos :(
Wow, magnificent playing!
That is a great compliment, considering your own catalogue! 🙂
Another fine effort, Geoff would be pleased.
Do you think there are any hardware synths similar to synthscaper ?
Oh crikey, I wouldn't know! I've had a little look now and then at things like the Arturia PolyBrute and MiniFreak, which have a similarly convoluted (though qualitatively different) sound design capabilities, but I can't say how they stack up feature for feature. Maybe the only sensible comparisons are (a) how many voices are available and (b) how flexible the modulation options are.
@@AlmostAviation thanks. Do you still use this app?
@@TwinCitiesOxygen No, not really. I have never really used many of the apps for much beyond tinkering.
@@AlmostAviation do you have any hardware or software you use regularly?
@@TwinCitiesOxygen I'm trying to learn about Ableton Live at the moment. The only hardware synth I have is a Moog MAVIS, which is kind of interesting but very limited.
That's some pickin', quite an achievement.
Sometime a layer won’t hold even when turned on. Any idea where it might be screwing up?
I think you'd need to be more specific for me to have any ideas!
Thank you for sharing your findings! If Ancient Aliens received the golden record on Voyager, and send something back, i bet $50,000 that You would be chosen to decipher it
Ha, very good :) I wish Igor would make another Scaper app, I love FieldScaper.
@@AlmostAviation same, love the Scapers!
Nice video! Beautiful guitars. I have a made by harmony regal brand h6382, which is basically the same as the h6303 as far as I can tell. I have had some restoration work done to it. The guy who I bought it from did a neck reset. I had a bridge reduction, bridge doctor install to help prevent the belly from getting worse, and fret leveling. It plays pretty well. Despite the mentioned work, action is a little high near the sound hole, I think due to the warping of the top, as the top has sunken around the sound hole area, and a belly has formed behind the bridge. However, using lighter guage strings really helps to make it easier to play. I use 11-52 strings, but even lighter guage could also work.
Yes, the 6382 looks a lot like the 1203 - I presume the different headstock and tuners are Regal branding. I don't like the look of the pin bridge so much, especially with those screws, which I presume are for adjusting the saddle. I sold all my Harmonies at the start of last year, with the sole exception of the 6303. It was the best of the bunch and also has kind of sentimental value as the first decent guitar I owned. I have a couple of Martins now and I have to confess that they are so, so much better in every way!
@@AlmostAviation Yes. The regal h6382 originally came with an adjustable saddle which I think was a somewhat common gimmick on guitars back around 1970. But on mine I do not have the adjustable saddle. I had mine fitted with a extra thick tusq saddle, so it doesn't have the screws in it, but it does look different than your typical acoustic, because it has a very thick saddle in place of where the adjustable one would be inserted. Some people also use a rosewood insert with a regular acoustic saddle. The guy who I bought it from actually had made a brass nut and saddle for it, but I didn't care for the sound. The brass nut and saddle gave the guitar a very metalic ringing tone, but I prefer a more woody tone so I went with a bone nut and tusq saddle. It also has a brass and ebony headstock inlay in the shape of a star. My guitar has a lot of modifications/customizations, so it is a purist collectors nightmare 😂
@@domdimensions9219 Sounds like it's had a lot of love, so purists be damned!
@@AlmostAviation The headstock of the sovreigns have that cool shape, right? But the regal h6382 has a generic martin headstock shape. I'm pretty sure they simply copied it from martin haha. Yeah, the vintage harmony guitars are not by any means the best guitars in the world. They were cheaply made and mass produced, so they tend to need restoration work. But they used some pretty good tone woods for the construction. I guess those were the materials they simply had available at the time. I think using laminated wood in guitars was a bit of a new thing back then. I think the allure of them is they have a unique tone which cannot really be replicated with modern guitars. If a musician is looking for a really unique tone to set them apart from the martins and gibsons, harmony guitars could be good for some styles.
Thank you for re-uploading this excellent tutorial
It's absolutely bananas that a manufacturer of a yoke/stick would be completely oblivious to this, especially when they're not even in the "budget" range of hardware. I noticed it within the first 5 seconds of flight and was very shocked to see it's not configurable at all. Not one review I watched mentioned this.. Hopefully this calibration works otherwise it's a pretty easy decision to return this thing.
Thank you so much for this video. It has helped fixed my yoke after nearly 4 years of owning it with the issue. I also used the free-floating method. I highly appreciate your videos. Eric
Please help .. I have a setup where I have two same monitors in front of me (and then two on the side). I cannot get the same picture as you, yours is actually brilliant. I guess Nvidia surround is not the option, how do i set up the front monitors so they show half and half of the front view?
If I understand correctly, you can set up two independent views for your front screens, then make sure each is rotated a bit to the right or left. Using 32" screens, each might have a FoV of about 60 degrees, so you would need to rotate the left view by -30 degrees and the right view by +30 degrees. (The zoom setting is also relevant, so have a look at my next video after this one, which talks about that.)
@@AlmostAviation I wish I could send a picture .. but given your instructions I somehow made it happen .. still not perfect, but .. It looks like the screens (QHD with 3440 × 1440) and what matters probably the most is the ZOOM .. unfortunately I see I cannot really set up it "universally" so the zoom would not impact the screens .. I can send a picture somewhere if you are willing to help a bit .. I would pay with donnuts :)
@@AlmostAviation In other words. I cannot, cannot, manage the proper alignment of four monitors and zoom in the cabin. Plus, what's bothering, is that the main POV is not from the seat, but it's 30 cms above .. any suggestions please?
@@michalvydrzel Your screens are very wide, so I doubt you will get the views to line up properly. You will inevitably get distortion out at the edges, and the only way to balance this is to reduce the FoV you are displaying on the screen - in other words, to zoom in. For a more satisfactory result you need to use screens with a lower aspect ratio - 16:9 or, better, the old-fashioned 5:4 screens! In my video I have taken a different approach, which is to use a single wide display and accepting the distortion, then adding two additional side views. They don't line up very well, but it doesn't really matter. You could do that with your two forward screens, either with nvidia surround or a TH2GO (or DH2GO). (Although I'm not sure if you can run 2+2 with nvidia surround.) You should be able to move the eyepoint up and down using MSFS commands.
Thanks for the re-up.
Thank you, very thorough and helpful.
I’m only a few minutes in, but appreciating the edits to reduce time 👍
Gteat video. Question, so if you were buying 3 tv's or monitors today what size would uou get for closest to real.lofe life size objects/world 🌎 in the sim? I guess my rral world car window in my sedan is close to a 60" tv size. A cessna might actually have a smaller front windshield size so a 50" tv might work well. I've seen youtubers use 2 high end projectors with a custom curved wall that jas to be over 200 inches but again, you can only see so much out a cessna or a320 real life sized windows right? Lmao
I guess 50" or so would be about right, or 55" seems to be a popular size. Of course you'd need them to be 4K at that size, so I think you'd struggle get a PC that could drive them. I don't know if there are options for multi-PC setups with MSFS.
@@AlmostAviation yeah, I suppose so. Back in the day you could buy a desktop with option to add two graphic cards in one desktop in SLI modes. Wonder if that still exists nowadays

Why do you have your 2 side monitors set up so goofy?

Thank you sir. Very useful❤
what a pile of crap
It's anyone's guess what this means :)
Thank you, sir, for this very instructional video. I had no concern about the dead zone but my yoke's calibration had gotten way out of whack and the Windows device calibration wasn't helping. I went through the built-in calibration that you showed in this video and my yoke is now calibrated properly. I appreciate your time.
7 YEARS LATER... 2024 still low quality glitchy encoders. Logitech are not a tech company, they are just box shifters. They do not design tech, they just buy up the rights to products created by others and then sell them. They do not upgrade any hardware that they sell. At best they will sometimes contract out the updating of software drivers to independent developers if and when absolutely necessary. I am currently trying to get a Motive Mods upgraded panel, but there is a problem because they say that the Radio Panel is not available in the USA, which is strange as I can get one from several outlets here in Europe.
They used to have an option to send your panel to them, or to purchase the upgrade as a kit. Perhaps their market is too small to make it worthwhile :(
Thanks for sharing thats was helpful

What throttle set are you using
@@russellgrundy8534 Virtual Fly TQ6.
I have to setup a basic twin otter sim for a training role I am starting . I see from earlier vids you has overhead throttles did the reverse thrust work on these
@@russellgrundy8534 Yes, they were Saitek quadrants and I had two independent levers for the reverse. Look here (ruclips.net/video/i0PxHhl0F2I/видео.html). Later I had the TQ6 mounted overhead, and that has reverse thrust natively on the power levers. (ruclips.net/video/v4P1gTz9ddE/видео.html)
Hi, I realise I'l late to the party here (some 8 years after the video was psted). My Saitek yoke keeps disconnecting -if I jerk it too quickly the lights go out. Also, the led on the throttle quadrant flickers some times as does the screen on the yoke. I put this down to poor electrical connections - have you experienced this as well and is there a simple fix?
The LCD screen was well-known for becoming flickery over time. I think the general 'fix' (which I used) was to stick a piece of black electrical tape over it! As for the disconnecting, I expect your are right that it's a loose connection somewhere. I guess that would be fixable if you could trace it, but the wires are all very skinny :|
where is that airfield? I see the Neptune parked...it looks like the one that was in Western Australia, for horse transport (or water bombing?) ..has horse logo on tail fin
Yes, I believe that was Cunderdin WA, a free airport from Orbx.
This works in 2024, mine came with about 5 degree dead zone in the middle the floating method fixed perfect
With a bit of a texture touch up this would be great in MSFS.
Yep, no doubt :)
dude you just save me from buying a new one😂
Useful video. Thank you.
Very interesting but, to my liking, hardly useful. What would be useful is to have different things on different monitors. i.e. central with the plane, another with the FMS and last, other with the Map. Any hints of how to do it? Thks. in advance and good landings.
You can drag any instrument that can be popped out onto its own screen. That's how I am doing the GPS here. (The other instruments are running outside of MSFS.) Of course this depends on which instruments have been created that way. In case you don't know, if you hold down the ALT-GR (right ALT) key, you will see a + sign in a circle when you put the mouse over an instrument that can be popped out. (You then click on it to pop it out).
excellent project, I have a question, is it possible to do the same with an xbox s or x console, since they are from Microsoft
😢😢 listen i screen recorded a live meeting while connecting to bluetooth earphones with audio but there is no audio recorded what can i do it's very important 😢 I'll pay you if u help me
Which app were you using for your meeting? Most communication apps deliberately prevent a screen recording from capturing audio.
So you don't ACTUALLY know what you're doing. I just wasted an hour of you mucking about with the app.
Igor's apps aren't for everyone, you need to put a bit of effort in to understand :)
I may need to try this...i dont have a dead zone really, but my yoke rolls to the right for some reason......
Thank you. 3 year old Vid still applicable today. You saved this company a return. Many thanks
Good thing too, seems like they're in no position to accept returns at the moment!
What computers setup do you use?
Hi, my specs are listed on the channel page.
Thanks Mark. I was referring to the Twin Otter close up #2 and #3 with autopilot. I’ve noticed that you were using 4:3 monitors back then. I really like 4:3 but in big sizes and big resolutions but nobody makes them anymore; it’s all cinema aspect ratios now. Anyway I was talking of for example you launch fsx and it appears in the middle screen then you grab the edges and you stretch them across to the other screens and do the same in the vertical plane. With Nvidia surround there is a lot more to set up but I’m not sure if the end result is the same or not. So is fsx running in Windows 10 Thanks Mark
Okay, in those videos I was using a single view with Nvidia Surround.
Hi Mark. I have spent a few days now reviewing your past videos on your twin otter. One question to you is your view on those 3 monitors was that a stretched fsx across all three monitors or did you you use Nvidia surround spanning the three monitors? The other question is. Which do you prefer stretching or Nvidia surround giving me the pros and cons of each from your experience? Much appreciated Mark. Thank you
Hello. First, I can't be sure which vides you were looking at, as my Twin Otter went through several iterations! Most recently in P3D I used a View Group, which means three separate views in three different windows. Likewise, I tried that in MSFS, although they don't call it a 'view group'. (My latest MSFS setup does this but uses a single window for the middle three screens, using a Matrox TH2GO.) Lastly, I'm not sure what distinction you are making between 'stretched' and Nvidia Surround, as I think they are the same thing. In other words, if you use Surround you have a single view spread across three monitors. This is only 'stretched' in the sense that you get geometric distortion at the extremes due to the projection algorithm. If you use three individual views instead, this effect is generally small enough not to be noticeable, although it is hard to get the edges to line up exactly. Individual windows is always going to look better if your PC can giive you the performance.
I have iPad 9th Generation, the screen recording works, but upon playing the recorded video there is no audio, the audio sometimes works if fast forward and then backward, or has to wait for a moment until the audio works and then reverse it back to the starting point. A quick fix is to restart the iPad and that's annoying. iPad 6th generation seem to has this same problem as well. But iPad Air 2 almost has no problems at all. I have four iPad Air 2, one iPad 6th generation, one iPad 9th Generation (so ?!)
Whoa, this is amazing. Thank you ❤.
Love the Piper hat while you promote the Cessna product.
Hello, which software do you use to keep all the instruments on the central screen? Thanks!
